The inaugural Meristem Open launched the new PGD tour in Nigeria and it teed off at the prestigious Lakowe Lakes Golf Estate in Lagos, Nigeria from Thursday, January 26th through Saturday, January 28th, 2023.
The tour took off on a strong footing with players from Nigeria, Ghana, Togo, Ivory Coast, and Zimbabwe.
Nigeria’s Francis Epe of Ikoyi Club 1938 fended off a stiff challenge from Ghana’s Vincent Torgah to win the Meristem Open with nine under par after 54 holes of play. Epe was three shots clear of the field of 87 players that competed for the N10 million naira prize purse in the inaugural event of the Professional Golf Development Tour promoted by Meristem Securities.
PGD Tour by Meristem has been in a thriving partnership with Etranzact, Custodian, UAC Foods, Refresh, and Farmfresh in organizing golf tournaments.
The performance of the players frankly described the quest for regular playing time by the professionals.
